Radio Network Controller

« Back to Glossary Index

The Radio Network Controller (RNC) is a critical component in 3G networks that manages radio resources and facilitates communication between base stations and the core network. It coordinates handovers, power control, and traffic management to ensure seamless connectivity. For example, when a mobile user moves between two base stations during a call, the RNC ensures the handover is smooth, preventing call drops or interruptions.
