Software-defined networking (SDN) is a networking approach that decouples the control plane from the data plane, enabling centralized management and greater network configuration and operation flexibility. Its purpose is to improve network agility, scalability, and automation. For example, SDN allows operators to quickly adjust network configurations to prioritize bandwidth for critical applications, such as video conferencing.
